Raising Boys of Noble Character {Podcast Episode 007}
Hey Friends!
I’m back with a(nother) topic that is super near to my heart…AND one I happen to working on a whole lot these days!
We’re talking about raising boys of NOBLE CHARACTER.
Today is a solo episode and I’m sharing my passion for raising boys of character. It’s so important friends. So, so important!
Here are a few notes from the episode:
1. Boy Mom Book Page. (today’s topic is from Chapter 6.)
2. a favorite quote from N.T. Wright: “Virtue…is what happens when someone has made a thousand small choices, requiring effort and concentration, to do something which is good and right but which doesn’t ‘come naturally’ — and then, on the thousand and first time, when it really matters, they find that they do what’s required ‘automatically’…Virtue is what happens when wise and courageous choices have become ‘sons nature.'”
3. Blog post: Targeting Character Issues in Teens.
You can find the Boy Mom Podcast on all of the various podcast platforms…here are just a few of them:

Thank you again and again for helping me kick off this podcast with so many ratings and reviews! I’d love for this episode to bring the count over 100, so if you haven’t left one yet, would you be so kind as to do that today? (it takes only a few seconds!) Thank you for sharing this episode with your friends using the image above, social media, or…good ole word of mouth! 🙂 You guys are amazing and this podcast community is already growing too be such a special place!
Leave a comment!? Do you have any books, resources, or suggestions for a mom aiming to raise a son of character? I’d love to add to my list, and I bet a lot of listeners/readers would appreciate a few ideas as well!
I heard this podcast a few months ago. It was wonderful. I would really like to introduce some of the materials you used to my son. Have you created a list of resources that we can access yet? Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom and insight.
oh thank you so much. I am working on a list which will fit into something a tad bigger soon. Sorry to make you wait — but stay tuned! (Meanwhile, how old is your son? — I’d be happy to offer a few recommendations here! :))
Please please, where can I find a list of recommended ted talks, books and other material that your boys used for their character building????!! Please let us know!
Oh bless you. 🙂 I’m wondering — did you read Boy Mom yet? there are tons of resources in there, including a list of books for boys in the “influence” chapter. I did not share the list my son used when we did this initially because it was quite a few years ago and I knew I could come up with some updated resources. My husband and I are currently working on something for parents who want more support for the topic of raising kids of character so hang in there — hopefully it won’t be much longer til it is avaialbe (and it WILL have a list in it! :)) Blessings —
Whet can I find the red talks you used for your sons devotionals to build character? I love this idea! Thanks so much for the idea!
Oh thank you! I’m getting lots of requests for this. We will work on something to share a list very soon! 🙂 Hoping I can get my boys on an episode to talk about all of their best recommendations and we’ll share a list then! Sorry to make you wait but I’m really excited to share it!
Yes!!!! This would be so helpful, I too would also love a list of ted talks that discuss character or maybe some follow worthy social media accounts for young men. So thankful for your book, podcast, and all your amazing resources, Thank you Monica!
Thanks for that, Monica, absolutely loved your idea of getting the teenager to listen to or read something encouraging about building character every day and journal it. Think I’m going to try that with my 16 year old!
