Hey Friends! Welcome to the third episode of the Boy Mom podcast! This is a very special episode because I have my first guest on the show -- Wendy Speake! And this isn't so much an "interview" as it is a conversation between two friends... Two boy moms! In this and the next episode, Wendy and I are chatting about the topics from Chapter 3 of Boy Mom, "Training Ground", which covers Boundaries, Freedoms, and Discipline. In today's episode, we are covering "Boundaries
Aloha and welcome to the 2nd episode of the Boy Mom Podcast! Today's episode is all about building healthy relationships with our sons. It's a big topic...and such an important one. In this episode I am sharing from the 2nd chapter of my Boy Mom book, which is truly foundational to everything else in the book! Women are connectors by nature. We are nurturers...we love our sons and we want to build a healthy relationship with them that will last a lifetime.
Well look what I finally got up the nerve to do!! Yipppeeeee! The Boy Mom Podcast has been born! And I am so excited to share it with you... In this first episode, I introduce myself, my blog (hi!) and my family. I talk a bit about my book and what led to my passion for writing to encourage Moms (and specifically, Boy Moms!) Some of you have followed me here for years and know my story, but I have a feeling you'll still learn a few things in this episode! Some of
Hey Friends! Well, we've almost survived May, and summer is basically upon us. It's that time of the year again, where I feel compelled to share favorite older post... But before I do...a few quick notes -- First: Though my shoulder surgery went really well (thank you so much for prayers and kind words!) I'm still pretty sore and tight, and sadly -- being on the computer seems to aggravate it. :( ugh. After Dave suggested I should "try a month off the computer" (as
May News, updates, and epic links...Time for a Coffee Date. Ok, so this Coffee Date may call for a venti, extra-hot whatever-you-drink. I've got one super-packed post, and I'm short on time, so let's caffeinate well, and dive in! I hope you had a great Mother's Day weekend and that you're keeping sane, because there's no way around it -- May is always cray-Z. It's end-of-year-everything, right?... Final exams, graduations, weddings, summer-planning, and the kids are all
Hey Friends! Happy Mother's Day weekend! I've updated the following post from a few years ago, and I think it's worth sharing again...It wasn't originally even a Mother's Day post, but a simple tool for helping our family's recognize and take some steps to support us moms the way we quite naturally support everyone else I wanted to share it now, because: Moms, After all you do -- all year long -- this is one weekend I truly hope you get to feel
As I happily anticipate my first son coming home from his first year away at college, I have found myself reminiscing a lot about all of the years with my boys. My boys have been having some fun chats lately about favorite family memories, and new ones they hope to make while Josiah is home this summer. As it turns out, my boys appreciate family traditions more than I had ever realized. With all of this on my mind, I was so excited to hear about Jessica Smartt's new book,
Healthy, sweet, carrot salad recipe. Perfect for spring, (Easter!) or anytime. Happy Easter Week! I hope you are well, and that your week is both fun and meaningful. Our week has been packed with Jonah's Hawaii Regional Debate tournament (he and his partner took 2nd in the final!) as well as church gatherings, and (more) guests in town. :) It's all kinds of exhausting fun. I'll be hosting for Easter dinner, and as I pondered the menu, I knew salad would be a
