Building a Healthy Relationship with our Sons {Podcast Episode 002}
Aloha and welcome to the 2nd episode of the Boy Mom Podcast!
Today’s episode is all about building healthy relationships with our sons. It’s a big topic…and such an important one.
In this episode I am sharing from the 2nd chapter of my Boy Mom book, which is truly foundational to everything else in the book! Women are connectors by nature. We are nurturers…we love our sons and we want to build a healthy relationship with them that will last a lifetime. Most of us feel a loving bond with our sons from the very beginning (and if you don’t feel that natural bond, no stress– I talk about that in this episode too!)
But as boys grow up they often pull away — whether in a healthy, normal way (like wanting more time with Dad) or in less-than-ideal ways (like wanting to be alone or always out with friends…) I receive a lot of emails form moms asking for help navigating this — “How can I let him go…but keep a healthy connection with him?…How do I give him independence, but not give up on our relationship?”
This is all such important stuff to talk about. To prepare for.
I am incredibly grateful that I have a great relationship with my teenage sons. But one thing I know is that it was built over many years. And it was built on an intentional foundation.
In this podcast episode I share the FOUR BUILDING BLOCKS of that foundation. This is how I have built (and continue to build) healthy relationships with my sons. And these are the basic building blocks of any healthy relationship.
I believe this conversation is so important. And though I’ll just scratch the surface in this episode, I think you’ll end it with some fresh ideas for building your relationship with your son, whether he’s a toddler, or a teenager! (or anywhere in between. :))
A few other notes:
1. I was still nervous. Thanks for giving me grace as I get started here…
2. You will find much more on this topic, of course, in my book. Also, we can plan to dive deeper into many of the topics we touched on in future episodes! (did something I mentioned pique your interest? Let me know in comments!)
