This episode kicks of a short summer series all about boys and technology!!
— If reading those words just made you break out in hives, you’re not alone…This is big, hard, but-oh-so-important-stuff!  And I’m here to encourage you, equip you with resources, and cheer you on.  (I’m also right here with you learning as I go!)

One thing I want to do is to come at parenting in this age of technology, from a number of angles.  Over the next 3 weeks we’ll be doing exactly that.  Today, we begin by talking about what it means to equip our kids to make good choices on line.  You might remember Kristen Jenson from Episode 44 where we talked about her book, Good Pictures Bad Pictures (which I only recommend to every mom I ever meet! 😉 ) Kristen has earned the respect of people all over the world looking for help on the topic of internet safety, and I am so happy to be sharing about her new online curriculum — CREATED FOR KIDS, to equip them and encourage them with online safety and practical refusal skills.

Levi and I had the chance to go through THE BRAIN DEFENSE DIGITAL SAFETY CURRICULUM before my interview with Kristen and there is no doubt — it is really well done!

Just like the Good Pictures Bad Pictures book, what I love about the Brain Defense Curriculum is that is removes the award, and gives you tools to have important conversations about things that are potentially life changing.  We MUST get comfortable talking to our kids about the things they face online (from cyberbullying, to pornography, to video game use or addiction) and Kristen is a pro at making this so much easier!

I hope this interview inspires you to take time this summer to EQUIP YOUR KIDS with the skills and tools they need to make good choices online, and to have a grasp on healthy refusal skills as well.  If you can get your child into the Brain Defense Digital Safety Curriculum I know you won’t be disappointed!

Question. It says on the Brain Defense website that their is the option of adding a religious component but I did not see how you do that. Did you include that with yours?

Hi Christina — I know what you mean — I think they added it but then removed it for some reason…I’m not sure if they are re-working it with plans to add it again, but for now I am pretty sure it is not an option. It’s a great curriculum regardless! 😉 Hope that helps.
