Mommy Overwhelm, Anger and Guilt, with Natalie Hixson
Overcoming the destructive cycle.
If you’ve been a mom for more than a minute, you have dealt with difficult emotions. Destructive mommy anger has been one of the hardest issues for me personally, and I am so grateful for God’s grace in offering me forgiveness, grace, and a new way to parent. Now I am passionate about helping other moms overcome the cycle of overwhelm, anger, and guilt.
Today’s guest, Natalie Hixson shares my passion, and has dedicated the past 8 years to coaching moms who struggle with anger. In today’s episode Natalie shares some of her story, as well as practical tools for overcoming overwhelm. I appreciate her wise perspective on mommy guilt, and her “SIT and Pray” acronym is a helpful tool for any mom who even occasionally gets angry (um, I think that’s all of us!?

Choose your FOUR Non-negotiables…
(Natalie’s are…)
1. Time with God
2. Physical Exercise
3. Dinner (a meal or at least the ingredients 🙂 )
4. A load of laundry!
Prayer: “Lord I need your desires to replace my desires and your will to replace my will.”
TRUE GUILT: is not an emotion.
If you are found guilty, you need to do something about it…
If the Holy Spirit convicts you of sin you should REPENT, and trust God to forgive you. (1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”)
“False guilt” is when we feel bad about things that are not wrong. (being on a date night, for example.) False guilt can also happen when we do not receive God’s forgiveness.
The “SIT AND PRAY” method for dealing with anger…
S: stop and separate (if possible.)
I: Inhale. Breathe. Regroup.
T: Tune in (to your feelings.) “What am I feeling right now?”
PRAY: Let the Lord help you deal with your emotions. Talk to Him. Trust Him.
