If you are a Christian parent navigating sports with your kids, you are in the right place! My husband Dave and I are passionate about family, faith, and SPORTS! Leave your name and email below to get a Pregame Checklist delivered to your inbox!

Our background and heart for Sports Parenting:
Dave and I both grew up playing a variety of sports. I competed in gymnastics and lots of team sports then ran cross country at Pepperdine University. Dave played several sports as well, and played soccer at Seattle Pacific University. He went on to play soccer professionally and coach high school soccer before starting medical school. I went on to work as a professional fitness instructor and personal trainer.
We’ve since raised four very active boys through just about every kind of sports experience—from AYSO soccer and martial arts to surfing, skateboarding, and golf. There have been great successes, plenty of challenges, and more than a few stories we laugh about now!
With three of our sons grown, and one still in high school, sports are still a big part of our family life. One son is a professional surfer, another is a competitive golfer, and all six of us continue to train and stay active daily—whether for competition, health, or simply because we love it.
We believe that sports offer kids the amazing opportunity to lay a healthy foundation, build character, and develop friendships. We could go on and on about all of the ways sports can shape, build, and inspire kids, even impacting their future success in other areas of life. Sports can be used greatly in ministry and offer wonderful (screen-free!) ways to stay active and enjoy God’s creation. We want to cheer on families to raise healthy kids and enjoy the thrill of competition.
We also know the challenges of youth sports – how they can crush a kid’s spirit or damage the parent-child relationship. We recognize the temptation to invest more time or money into a sport than a family set out to do, or allow some aspect of a sport to lead to idolatry. We know the strain of games on Sunday mornings, and the pain of kids getting cut from the team or losing when it matters most. (Oh how we know!…🥹) We want to help families avoid pitfalls and to grow from the challenges that come with youth sports.
Over time as Dave and I have shared our journey of raising active kids, we have heard from a lot of parents who are trying to navigate the exciting – though complicated, waters of youth sports. We have recognized the need for mentors in this area, especially for Christian families who want to honor God with everything they do.
Now, it is our literal JOY to come alongside parents in the sports-trenches as mentors.
We may not have all the answers, but we’d love to be a voice of reason and wisdom on this topic. We are working on some fun projects for the future, but for now we have created a helpful printable for you to share with your kids. If you leave your name and email below, you’ll get an email with our “Pre-Game Checklist” and be added to our Christian Sports Parenting email list so we might keep you posted as we have more encouragement or resources to share in the days ahead!

Note: By signing up you will also be added to my weekly email list (if you’re not on it already.) You can always opt out of that list later, no worries! (but hopefully you won’t want to!)
Here’s to raising healthy, well-balanced kids who do all things with excellence, for God’s glory. We pray that their sports involvement gives you a great opportunity to show them love and support, and helps them grow to be strong and courageous people!
with Aloha, Monica and Dave
