  1. Hello Monica,

I’m iinterested in your topics Mid40s; Launching kids: College, empty nest; and the personnality profile benefits.

A personal suggestion: Mending, creating or healing trust between StepDad & StepSon; Re-entering society from Recovery Chronic diseases…; How to reconnect adult children following a considerable distance (my kids lived with Grandma during their grad years ~ while I went on a self discover journey). They’ve changed so much: I feel estranged and lost on getting the close connection we once had. Can we be inseparable as before the abandonment by me??? I regret so much but still wanna try to heal.

  2. Teenagers and how to parent them without losing your mind. Preparing to let go and send them off to college. Josiah and Maria are the same age, so your posts are helpful.
How do we keep our kids focused on God and not the world.
You are amazingly helpful and encouraging. We so miss seeing you all.
Praying for continued blessing for you and your wonderful family.
Say hey to Dr. Dave for us!!

    God Bless.

    1. Thank you so much Diane! Great to hear from you and thank you for the kind words. Blessings to you also. Keep in touch! 🙂

  3. Eeek! I’m late to the party! My vote is for B, D, E, and F. But really, all of your posts are incredibly insightful, whether I can utilize them now (as a married-sans-kids girl) or in the future (with kiddos, God willing!) — or direct a friend in a different stage of life to one of your posts or videos! 🙂

You rock, Monica. I’m super-excited to see where God leads you in the new year! It’s gonna be an adventure.

  4. I’ve just been reading, not commenting, but wanted to comment and say thanks for sharing your heart and pieces of your life with us. I have been encouraged and inspired to try new things. All of the topics you listed sounds good (I guess that’s why I’ve been attracted to the blog!), but I would love continuing thoughts on…
marriage–hard seasons and building good habits and patterns
fitness–I really enjoy the down-to-earth approach to exercise and nutrition
parenting kiddos–embracing healthy boundaries and positive patterns even if it bucks the “norm” of our culture
I like idea of life in mid-40’s

    1. Awesome, thank you so very much Kristen! I totally understand that some people prefer to read and not comment, and that is just fine. But then it means even more when you do–:) Thanks and I’ll keep your interests in mind I promise! Aloha- (and don’t be shy here, haha.) XO

  5. B, C, E, F 1, 3, 4

Anything about teenagers, and health, fitness & nutrition.
With that said, I will read all of your blog posts. 🙂

    1. Thank you Meredith. So sweet! Bless you and Happy New Year!

  6. Hi Monica! I always love to read any and all of your posts, but, since you asked, my top choices in order would be
    F, A (8-year-old boys!), B…
Your recipes are always so terrific…you probably noticed that I often comment on them months, weeks, or even years after they’ve been originally posted because whenever I _finally_ get around to trying them, my family loves them and I want to share the joy with you! Then they become part of my recipe folder and I use them over and over…they get all dog-eared and stuff spills on them, etc. like a family cookbook! They taste great and are healthy, too!! But I love all of your posts and I look forward to a new year of them!
    xoxo
    Wendy

  7. Really all the options sound great!
I’d also love to hear about managing working from home with kids.
Mine are young, 2 and 4, both boys so hearing about how it was when yours were young too is great for me. I feel like we are in survival mode most of the time right now.
Staying organized and ahead of the game, leaning on Christ when we feel we can’t do it all, trusting His path both the waiting and the moving seasons, are a few subjects Id love a well

  8. Also I would love to hear about how you feed the boys with recipes. I would like to see what I ate in a day boy/kid version.

I have been married 21 years and we are still a work in progress so I enjoy those as well. Bought and love your ebook. Still battling the voice to want obsess about food but it is getting better. Keep doing what your doing. I love hearing about what other moms are doing.

    Thanks from Michgan❄

  9. A, B and C for me 😜

  10. A. 8-10 year olds what to expect. I also have one like yours that loves to debate…..posts about that would be nice.

I would like to read about how you helped encourage each ones interests.

    Thanks for all you do!

  11. Marriage related posts.
    Health/fitness/body image posts
    how to deal with backtalk
    relaxation techniques
How to manage arguments between siblings

  12. I love all your posts, and I’m particularly interested in posts about health/body/fitness and recipes. And your upcoming series sound great! I’m in my early 40s, have 4 kids, and homeschool, so I feel like we have a lot in common! (Except I’m in snowy North Idaho, so your photos of the beach right now make me feel like we actually live on different planets 😉
    🙂 Sarah

    1. Awesome Sarah–thanks so much for the feedback!! We are like the same person in very different places, aren’t we? haha…So much fun hearing from you! Much Aloha–

  13. Tina Katter says:

I have 3 kids who are all spring babies so will be having birthday’s soon; girl (9), boy (10), & boy (13). Areas of interest for me outside of what you normally share are:
    – your trials with raising your kids with technology
    – what have you tried/opinions for allowance, chores, other balanced life skills to teach your kids
    – how do you navigate teenage boys, communication style for understand their wants (new friendships where you don’t know the other kid’s parent/family), instilling motivation to be self directed & disciplined, teaching the balance of technology and being present
    – even though you homeschool, you still face the challenge of reaching each child to help them understand their learning style. How do you figure this out? What executive function tools do use to help them learn how they can learn these skills and use them in their studies.
    – forward thinking to readiness beyond school and balance of hobbies and school.
    – for food issues – I’d love to find simple family friendly meals. But really interested in snacks that are healthy and nutrient packed for my kids. They love their carbs and sweet tooth, but with limited time during the day we’re flying from school to an activity and the time in between is not their normal eating time frame. But this is the time when they need to eat something substantial on-the-go. No allergies but just picky eaters.
    – otherwise, I just love your perspective to keeping it real and the daily struggle that you’re honest about.

  14. Leigh Helton says:

Family, marriage and definitely teenage boys!!! I have a 14 year old and love getting your perspective. We are very different but I get a lot out of all your posts. Blog less, if that’s what you need to do to keep balance in your life, but keep doing what you do!!!!

  15. Monica, you are a breath of fresh air! I wish I could help you refine your 2017 direction, but I love it all. I do really value seeing how you manage to tie it all together with everything you do for others (homeschooling, family life, your marriage, friendships, blogging, etc.) while managing to stay sane and graceful with your dedication to health, fitness, faith and personal expression. I also love the little peeks into life in Hawaii (miss it so much). I have been listening to more podcasts recently (while I work or jog or drive in the car) as I find I have little to no time left to watch a video (maybe you could plan your videos to also function as podcasts?). Other, than that, please keep doing what you are doing. And thank you so much for sharing your life and insight with all of us!

  16. Heather Viotto says:

C! Especially boy teenagers! But I also love your recipes so keep those coming every so often, please!!

  17. Returning to school. Raising a tween. Keeping a healthy marriage & Family.
Keeping God first in our life.
Traveling on a budget, healthy eating, decorating, decluttering and organizing .
I love to see some DIY posts too!

  18. Heidi Borgeas says:

Aloha Monica! I chose A, B & C for your topics but was already really pleased that you then mentioned as your spring topics #3 had all my favorites built in!

You are an inspiration and breath of fresh air in my day. Just thought you should know that……….

Looking forward to keep reading your shared thoughts! Mahalo, Heidi

  19. Happy new year! Actually, I’d like ALL of the above, just to be well rounded haha! I think we have a similar personality, and like you, I wanted to do it all unrealistically but still with hope that this year would be different 😊 How Enneagram helped your family sounds interesting, though.

    1. Thank you so much! Appreciate your feedback and happy new year to you!! 🙂 XO

  20. How do/did you stay sane as a mother doing all of this? My 5 & 2.5 yo girls will be homeschooled, or as I like to say, in the world learning, which is occurring of course even now. I work part time for our own company and I cook almost 3 meals a day from scratch, while on the less waste/minimalism approach to life, yet it borders me having moments of grizzly bear moments! Advice on self-preservation and really being heart filled as a wife, mother, woman would be appreciated from your perspective 🙂

    1. Wow Tarja–you make us all look bad! haha…Well done on so many levels! 😉 Best advice is to give yourself some grace and be kind to yourself…But yes to hopefully covering more of those topics this year! Much aloha–

  21. 1, 2, 3, 4….. I LOVE all your words❤ keep inspiring me & everyone who reads your blog!

  22. Kendali Freitas says:

I’m a single mother rising a 20 yr old daughter (in college) and a 14 yr old boy. Would love to read all you can write about teen boys. I need wisdom, insight and lots of ideas ’cause I don’t have a male figure in the house. My relationship, with both my children, is wonderful. They’re very committed in their walk with Christ and He is the foundation of our home. I devour anything related to raising boysthat I get my hands on. Thanks for taking the time to bless us.

    1. Thank you so much Kendali! Love hearing from you and it sounds like you are doing a fantastic job…Way to be intentional and all you can do raise your boys well. (and I have a feeling they’re gonna turn out great!! :)) I truly appreciate your feedback! Aloha-

  23. A. & C. Most definitely! 😆

  24. Susan Plantenberg says:

topics D,E,F,G – so I am sure it is apparent I am thru with the parenting – the other topics of much interest at this stage of my life. Looking forward to a great year for all!

  25. Amber Kramer says:

All of them, but you peaked my interest especially around life in the mid-40s!

    1. haha…that one is becoming popular…I’m looking forward to it! 🙂 Aloha-

ACEF/1, 3, and 4 will be here in two years. 😊 Love your posts and the way in which your honesty shines through, along with your great sense of humor! Happy New Year and God bless you!

    1. Thank you Lisa!! Appreciate the feedback and such kind words…:)

  27. A-B-D-and perhaps just keep periodically posting on homeschooling as well?
I so appreciate everything that you write and soak it in like a sponge. I have 4 lil ones.
5.5 yr old twin boys, a 3 yr old boy, and a 16 m old girl. I think something on how you talk to your kids about current events and how you help shape their world view when so much around us seems bananas…
Any who, I am just so blessed to have found the blog and will love any wisdom you choose to share with us:-)
    xoxo-
    Rachel

    1. Rachel–Thank you for the excellent feedback. Great topic idea too — writing that one down!! Such a passion of mine too. 😉
Truly appreciate you taking the time to comment and so nice of you to encourage me too. 🙂
      XO

  28. Hey Monica.
We love all of your posts (our kids have grown and fled the nest) but we most love reading about life in Hawaii and living our ‘wishlist’ through you guys.

    Keep up the great work.

    1. Than you Daz! That means a lot and I am thrilled when people like to see glimpses of our hawaii life because those are such fun posts to share! 🙂 Much aloha-

I have 3 girls. 12, 9. and 5!! I need help! 😉 God has it so I’m really okay but I just like to hear new things. I love healthy eating as well. New recipes help change things up!!

Thanks for you all you do!
    Blessings,
    Amy

    1. Thank you Amy! Love that you have girls and hope and pray my posts serve you well too! Thanks for the feedback, and Happy 2017!

Hi Monica! I read your blog for insight into raising teenage boys. My oldest boy is 13, and I have a 9 yr old boy and a 7 yr old girl. Any honest writing about parenting teenagers in a Christian home is helpful! I truly appreciate the authenticity and humility in your writing, and I love the practical extras in your blog like your scripture meditation cards. I can’t thank you enough for those!!

    1. Oh thank you so much Blair! Love your feedback and appreciate your kind words. SO happy you’ve enjoyed the meditation cards too! 🙂 Happy New Year!

  31. I can totally relate! I just had my third baby, and thought I could keep up with everything I was doing before. I found out the hard way that things have changed, my season of life has changed, and I absolutely can’t do it all. And I have such peace in my heart right now, knowing that’s ok. Some things have to go, I can’t compare myself with “the other moms”, and I am learning to be okay with that! You have the rest of your life to write that book 😉

    1. amen and thank you Hannah! Keep enjoying the peace you have found, and thank you for the encouragement! Aloha-

  32. A-tween/Middle school age boys

    1. Pushed send too soon!
Love the posts about different boy topics….the talk, social media, etc.
So nice to hear from those who have walked thru those times already-thanks!!

      1. Awesome and thank you. Hope to bring you lots of boy topics in the new year! aloha-

  34. Cindy Westwood says:

My twins graduated and moved out and on to college. I am left with one 16-year-old son at home after having a house full. I always grew up knowing I wanted to be a mom with a large family. Now I have daughters married, with grandchildren, and a few unmarried children still. My life has totally changed this year!!!! I am looking for some direction and a view point about being a grandmother, and also getting back to all the “life” I put on the back burner when I devoted my life to motherhood.

I have 16 grandchildren so far and I do grandkids day twice a month. The second and fourth Wednesday is from 9:30am-3:15 pm and all grandkids from one years old until they start school are invited to come. Giving their moms(my daughters) a day to themselves, no strings attached.

I also spend Tuesdays from 10am – 3:00pm with my mom in an assisted living center. That has been my Christmas present to her every year, long ago when my youngest started first grade and my Dad was still living. We love that companionship time. (She was the one that chose to go to an assisted living center last year, even though my brother and I each offered her a place at our homes.)

I am active in my church, serve as a cub scout den leader, and have lots of things I want to do. So, from your perspective looking forward to my time….what advice would you give? I don’t want to always be tending grandchildren – I love them, but after raising 11 children, I am ready for some time to do my projects too. I had to learn to be independant and use friends, and baby sitters, it is their time too.

Oh, by the way, whenever a daughter has a baby, my husband is so supportive to help out at home so I can go and support the mom and new baby and family adjustments for two weeks.

I need on outsider helping me to find a balance. I love all your posts, even if I am past some of the stages, but I share them with others too. And it is fun to remember back when I was going through some of those same challenges.

    1. Cindy, OH I just adore you…What an amazing woman you must be!! Thank you so much for sharing about your life and I am truly honored that you read my blog and took time to comment. I absolutely encourage you to choose the thing (just one or two) that you are most passionate about personally and dive in to it a little more. Watching grandkids is wonderful, but I totally agree that some of your time should be developing an interest or passion that you can continue for many years. It sounds like you could go many directions, but maybe there are even things you put aside years ago (an art form or type of work?….not sure) but I do hope that I can do that when my kids are grown. Of course being available to help where needed with your kids AND being there for your mom is so amazing…so I would try to keep some margin in whatever you do as it sounds like you are a natural servant and I am guessing that does fill your cup too! Hope that helps a little but definitely keep in touch and we can explore more together here! 😉 XO Aloha-

  35. E – health related stuff
    Thanks!

  36. My favorites are A, B, C, & D. Ah, if only you knew how much Monica has shaped life in our house… Haha!

I would love to see posts about launching kiddos out into the world (even though I’ve thankfully got years ahead of me before that happens!) so I’m looking forward to those.

I have particular issues with trusting my kid and I don’t know if you have ever addressed that in the past and I’ve missed it, but I would love some insight there. I have one (9 yr old boy) who is incapable of telling a lie and one (12 yr old boy) who seems to be incapable of telling the truth. I mean, it’s pretty easy because we know that no matter what he says it’s not true but it’s frustrating and I don’t know how to fix it. Now is the time to start building trust but how??

Now that I think about it I know that I HAVE read posts from you about trusting and building trust with your kids, but I’d love more. And how to deal with them when they break that trust. And, obviously, what to do when they lie.

I know that you are going to move on to bigger and better things some day but that will be a sad day for me! I look forward to your posts! So here’s one avid reader that says I’m glad you’ve decided this year, at least, I’m glad to hear you aren’t giving up blogging and I vote that you do it forever. 🙂

    1. Oh Becka your words mean so much to me. Seriously! I appreciate your feedback, and though I’m sorry for your specific challenges you are not alone. I will keep that all in mind as I move forward. I think the most important thing (just real quick right now :)) is that if our kids are prone to lying we help them uncover the heart issue there…they need to understand the depth of problems that come with lying and also what it says about the state of their own heart at that time. (I’m guessing you’ve gone over all of this but just in case.) Perhaps some books with examples (can’t think of one off the top of my head but will ponder) or examples of people who have chosen the path of always being honest vs. the slippery slope of lies…Our goal should always be to shape our kids’ hearts not their behavior (because behavior will follow any ways…) SO I guess bottom line is keep focused on the heart and the character, and pray a lot and perhaps too he will outgrow some of it…you can hope! 😉 Keep me posted, PLEASE. And again thank you for taking the time to give feedback and to say such nice things! aloha!

      1. Thank you! We have tried a lot of different things but in an effort to not completely embarrass him I haven’t taken it very public. But something I hadn’t considered until just now when you said the heart issue (even though we’ve read several books about heart behavior) is taking it to my pastor. He’s amazing and I know that he would talk to my son about it. My son has gotten into so much trouble with lies that he’s involved the principal at his school – who then brought in a police officer! – so I think “scaring” him straight isn’t an option but I can’t believe I haven’t tried my pastor! So obvious now!

I really appreciate your lengthy response. Your love for each individual reader (yes, it’s very obvious) is part of the reason I love you so much. Thanks again!

  38. B & D, and I’d love to hear more about #2.
Love your writing and perspective… keep blogging!

I’m interested in healthy recipes. We have had some recent dietary restrictions come up and finding flavorful and healthy foods that my children would actually like is difficult. I admit to being a not too healthy eater myself too so getting any of us to eat more fruits, veggies, and everything healthy is hard. Things that your crew actually enjoy would be great for us to try.

    1. Great, thank you Jessica! Can you tell me what kind of dietary restrictions you are dealign with? I share a lot of gluten free options because my dad has Celiac Disease so I often am creating recipes for him that are Gluten Free…what else would you like to see? Let me know! 🙂 Thank you for taking the time to reply!! aloha-

      1. We have 1 diagnosed Crohn’s and 1 who hasn’t been formally diagnosed with Crohn’s. We know that the diagnosed one has sensitivity to dairy and spicy foods as well as tomatoes or acidic food. He eats huge amounts of grilled chicken. The younger one who isn’t formally diagnosed appears to have a sensitivity to dairy and spicy foods….though she hasn’t wanted to eat spaghetti sauce in a little while which I didn’t connect until right this minute. We’ve been moving away from processed foods for a while, all our “treats” are homemade, no ring dings here! We’re starting to move towards a Paleo/Ketogenic diet but we’re moving slowly into that. We were a big bread/meat/potatoes family and now we’re getting more into the salads, fruits, veggies, and better for us meats – not that we know what better is yet, we’re still learning.
Light and flavorful without being heavy in any spice would be great 🙂 Thanks for asking 🙂

  40. Hi! A friend of mine forwarded me this page and I’m so glad she did! I have yet to latch onto ANY blog site; but I thought I’d try yours being that I feel like we could be best friends without even knowing each other. Lol.

You see, I have 4 boys all two years apart (oldest is 13 right now). My boys are little shredder boys (LIVE for the beach; but we live near the snow here in CA, so we shred in the mountains most of our time); I homeschooled my boys on a classical education curriculum for 4 years and they totally excelled and are little brainiacs, but recently switched them over to a charter of the same kind of education once my oldest hit the physical science lab stage (read: mom guilt; but mom needed some sanity time, too).

I love the topics you’re going for this year. TOTALLY up my alley. There is one thing that I feel someone like you, who’s so much like me, could address: could you maybe talk about girl time? Like, I feel like I’m SO super DUPER lucky to have my crew. {Side note: With all of our adventures we’ve taken, we are so tight and I love that; but sometimes I worry that my boys don’t reach outside their comfort zones enough to be social outside our family. Not that they don’t want play dates – they do! But they don’t find friendships that I remember having (a bestie for life) at that age.} Maybe that’s a good thing they find all their love inside the family? These are things I worry about. And me? I still want a bestie. A GIRL bestie. I realize that I’m the LUCKIEST to have my husband, who happens to LOVE everything I do – we do EVERYTHING together and love it; so am I wrong to want a girl by my side through tough times, too? {For most people, that’s what moms are for, but I lost mine to cancer 11 years ago, so I miss that part of my life IMMENSELY} My husband is a doctor (a surgeon) and so he is on call and unreachable A LOT. That leaves me to fend for myself most hours of the day. Sometimes I just want to chat about silly things. Or ask questions about laundry. Or what brand of yogurt doesn’t give you gas. You know?

Maybe that’s what you’re for…? You can be my bestie that gets me. Hopefully I can manage through these upcoming teenage years with grace and find that support I need through yours and other friends that have been there and done that before me. Either way, I’m looking forward to future installments of your blog to see what it’s all about!

    1. Gigi– Oh I love your comment and I’m so glad your friend sent you to my blog! Yes, let’s be best friends. 😉 Your family sounds incredible and we could talk for hours about all that you shared…I relate to so much of that, and I will definitely keep it in mind for future posts! Thank you so much for taking the time to introduce yourself and share a bit of your life. Hope you’ll keep in touch here from now on. Aloha!

  41. Happy New Year. Posts on teenagers are definitely much welcome. I have two in the house now. One is 13 (girl) and one just turned 16 (boy) and is getting his lisence this week! I also enjoy your healthy recipes a lot – smoothies anyone?

    1. Thank you so much Susi! Good luck with the new driver! yay! 🙂 Looking forward to this new year! xo

  42. All except the teenager part (not there yet, lol). Have an almost 4 year old.
Life in the mid-40s would be good, as well as enneagrams. It’s all a good mix!

  43. Jot me down for all of them. My boys are 11 and 8 and I’ve been so grateful for your parenting perspective. And, I read your book a few months ago and it was absolutely the jolt I needed to let go of my food obsession! Even right after the holidays, I feel good, healthy and in control. Thank you for your guidance on all fronts!!

    1. AWESOME Lindsay!! Thank you so much for the feedback and I am thrilled to hear that my book has helped. Bless you in 2017!

  44. Angela O'Brien says:

Hi Monica! I love your blog and have been following for a couple years now. I would love to see posts on the teenager years, since I am in the thick of it with a 15 and 13 year old!:) I also love your recipes and any healthy family/fitness ideas you have! Finally, I was just talking to a friend who told me about the Enneagram… still not sure what it is but super curious so would love to hear your story about how it has helped your family!

As an aside, my family is super excited for 2017. We will be spending the month of July on the islands (coming to Oahu first) and CANNOT wait! A once-in-a-lifetime trip to celebrate our 20th anniversary and my son’s 16th birthday! I cannot wait to explore the islands and really take time to breathe it all in. My husband and I secretly dream of living a life with our two kids in Hawaii!

    Aloha!
    Angela

    1. Angela-Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. Love your feedback (and the Enneagram post should be fun–though I still have a bit of research to do, haha…I’m new to it as well!) I am thrilled for your plans to come to Hawaii this summer. How wonderful! Keep me posted on that, ok? XO Aloha!

  45. Hi Monica,
I love your posts and they so often bless me.
In terms of topics, A, C, 1, 2 and 3 all appeal to me. I have a 13 year old and 11 year old (turning on 16!)
Any suggestions on how to deal with a son with an extremely strong will, who believes himself to be the boss in the family? I struggle to handle this child, without flying off the handle myself. He knows just how to push my buttons.
God bless and thanks for keeping the posts coming.

    1. Desire’– Thank you for the feedback. So kind of you. And yes, I need to work on a post on that strong-willed bossy son (it seems many of us have one! Mine happens to be 6. haha) For now I will remind you what I remind myself: IF we lose our cool they are winning. Stay cool and calm and stay BOSS. 🙂 Bless you and keep in touch!

  46. A- E – F are my choices!
I am also looking forward to your series of life in the mid forties (how did that happen? :))

Keep up the good work. I love reading your writings.

    Monica,

I would love to hear more about what you are doing with your kids in their homeschooling endeavors and how they grown without sending them to brick school house. I would love to homeschool my kids and in the New York City area, its hard. I really enjoy hearing about your you put together such a great social structure around your kids! I wish you could have a field trip for hesitant Dads who won’t let their wives homeschool. I say that with a soft laugh.

Also, I would love to hear more of your thoughts about dealing with puberty, teen social pressures and girls/dating.

Your blogs are inspiring and always come at the right time.

Happy New Year and Keep on Keeping On!

    1. Oh that all means SO much to me, Christina! I promise to consider these things as I write…(and btw–my husband was anti-homeschooling until he let me try it for a year, and now he is the one who won’t let me quit when I threaten. :)) Bless you and thank you for taking the time to comment!! XO

  48. Ang Johnson says:

I love your recipes & would love it if you’d share some more of them! 🙂

  49. Sara Manternach says:

I always enjoy your blogs about kids…. I have an almost 15 year old son and 9 year old daughter….

    1. Thank you Sara!! Appreciate you taking the time to comment! 🙂 Aloha-

  50. They all sound great but I’m really looking forward to reading more about being a woman in her forties from a woman in her forties! I’m forty-two and sometimes I tire of reading the blogs of the Moms in their thirties. Thank you for writing.

  51. Hi Monica –
I would say all of the above! Except maybe the recipes…….(just because I hardly ever find myself reading those posts, to be honest). But that’s just me.
But all the parenting, marriage, mid-life, and mind/body health posts are fantastic. I appreciate you!! Thanks for all your work and your words of wisdom.
    Love and peace,
    Janine

Teenagers teenagers teenagers. When they start to grow and stray. That delicate line between letting them go and keeping them under control.

    1. Thanks Kathleen…But you sure you don’t want me to write about teenagers? hahaha…Yep–You’re not alone, and I look forward to doing what I can to help all of us navigate. 🙂 Much aloha-

Due with my 3rd boy in the next few weeks with a 3 and 8 already filling my days with happy chaos (most of the time) 😏. I personally love your variety…because that’s my life. Homeschooling, love to cook, stay healthy and make sure I don’t neglect my marriage in the middle of it all. After all we will still be here together when these boys head out! So I say variety is great! Even posts about future stages…teenagers etc are so helpful as I grow my vision for parenting through the long haul and keeping perspective in the current season, that there are things to treasure but there is light ahead on the long hard days when the are little and need so much from me. Thanks for taking the time to share your life and your heart and your family to encourage and equip those of us coming up behind you! And thanks for your faithfulness to do the hard work and take time to reflect on what you have learned in order to serve other moms and wives!

  54. Dena Schultz says:

I’d vote for, am interested in a, b, c & look forward to reading about life in mid 40s. I have 3 boys, ages 8, 11, and soon to be 13. Sometimes the fighting is intense! I’d be interested in reading a post on how to train them to be respectful, kind, and helpful. What novels are your boys into?

    1. Thank you for the feedback! Awesome–I look forward to covering those topics. 🙂 Much aloha!

  55. Definitely all of it !! Thank you Monica

  56. Hi Monica! I vote for posts that have anything to do with kids at any age. I started reading your blog at a time in my life when I felt like I was drowning as a mother. I have a 9 year old boy and 3 year old girl. After my daughter was born, I quit my professional career to stay home with my kids and my sister-in-law had finally talked me into homeschooling. 😳 Needless to say, nothing could have prepared me for this transition. It was HARD!!! I don’t even remember how I found your blog, but when I did, I clung to it like a lifeline. It was everything I needed to hear at that moment in my life. It has been three years and we have adjusted, but I still draw such inspiration from all of your posts. Thank you for what you do and being so honest about motherhood, speaking of both its ups and downs. And thank you for being that breath of fresh air when I needed it most.

    1. Erica–That means SO very much to me. Seriously, thank you so much for sharing this with me. I’m super encouraged! I will keep YOU in mind as I write in the days to come. Blessings in 2017!

      1. If you received two messages from me, it was because the first time around, there was an error when I sent it and then when I tried to send it again, it said it was a duplicate. I just started over at that point because I wasn’t sure what was happening. Just wanted you to know your posts are making a difference in our lives.

  57. Yes and yes, A-G. I love this space and getting tidbits from you also on instagram. Thank you.

    1. Oh thank you so very much Katie! Seriously, super encouraging words. Happy New Year!

  58. Hi Monica,
You always bless me and I gleam a nugget of something (wisdom, insight, humor) out of every post. I especially love the posts about Christian parenting-thats actually what drew me to your blog three or so years ago-there are good blogs on parenting but I haven’t found any as real as yours without being preachy. Keep on writing about whatever God puts on your heart…someone needs to read that particular post at that particular time in their life.

    1. Oh my goodness, Rose. Those are such encouraging words. Thank you thank you for taking the time to comment! I hope to be an encouragement to you in the new year! XO

  59. A, B, C — and I love hearing about raising boys! I have 2 🙂

    1. Awesome Dona, thank you so much!! And yay for boys! 🙂

  60. Hi Monica! Thank you for all your encouragement. You were so kind to email back and forth with me a few times re: your book. I have read and re-read it several times. I would love for you to expand on the topic of healthy body image. I’m praying for freedom in this area of my life in 2017 – and not just for myself (I have 4 daughters!).

I also love your quick little health and fitness video clips. They don’t even have to be long. I am subscribed to your instagram, so I loved the ones you made during the holidays.

    Many blessings to you!

    1. Heather– thank you SO much for this comment. I think I had emailed back and forth with you but hadn’t put together who you were (embarrassing but true!) Now I read your name and I’m doubly blessed to hear that I have encouraged you in any way. I do hope to expand on the topic of healthy body image in the New Year, and I will pray for you to have an incredible year ahead in this area! I’m so happy that you enjoyed my quick videos…I was trying to decide if I should keep doing them in the New year so your feedback is great! 🙂 You take care and again–thank you for the feedback! (and yay for four daughters–wow…I can’t even imagine!!) XO Aloha!

  61. Discipling your children!

  62. Teresa Eskew says:

ACDF. Although I enjoy all your posts. =)

    1. Thank you so much!! Bless you and happy new year to you and the fam!! XO

  63. Hey Monica!

I love your blogs and the topics you are considering to cover this year. I’d like to see posts for new moms or moms with younger kids: what you’d do differently and nuggets of wisdom you’ve gained for each life stage having (and still raising) 4 boys.

I also like your healthy recipes! Sending you a big hug from Cali…Happy New Year!!

    K 🙂

    1. Hi Karen! Oh thank you so much for the feedback! I have totally been considering going back and sharing a series starting from pregnancy on…Love that idea of covering each stage! Much love to you and thank you for taking the time to give me feedback! aloha! 🙂

  64. Stephanie says:

    I’d love posts about A, B & F. Thank you! 🙂

  65. Love your insight and faith based realizations about life today. I have a 15 yr old son so enjoy your perspective on raising teens / healthy young men.

  66. A. Posts about raising kids–at any age (name the age if you want to!) Yes, especially defusing arguments!
    B. Posts about growing a healthy, happy family (look for one on that topic coming soon actually.) Especially looking for ways to encourage our boys to build each other up!
    C. Teenager posts!?- It’ll be here sooner than I think…
    E. Health/fitness/body image posts. Yes please!
    F. Recipe posts (specific types? Tell me!) Seriously, when I make something new and delicious my kids ask if it your recipe. Banana cake, one pot pasta and fish tacos have become staples in our home.

    G. Anything else? Name it! All the clutter… I know it is signs of life and an indication of our season ( all helpful advice, thanks) but the clutter is never ending.

A few topics/series I am already planning this spring: (feel free to comment on these, too!)
    1. A series about life in the mid-forties (!!) At 43, I say bring it on!
    2. How the Enneagram (personality profile) has helped our family- Hmmm- very interested in this new to me topic.

    3. Marriage, family, and TEENAGERS! (I will have three teenagers in the house as of Feb. 7!) Good for future reference.
    4. Launching kids…graduation, college, and all of the feels. Can’t even think about this-too sad. Best I learn by your example 🙂

One more suggestion- some life in Hawaii posts. Love to see a glimpse of the island life we dream about-especially the daily life of a busy family.

Glad to hear your holidays were somewhat restful. Poor Dave-21 days in a row is not an easy task! Thanks for you writing- it is a blessing!

    1. Thank you Shannon! You know you’ll always be a favorite….hehe!! Love you from a distance and appreciate this feedback so much. I already think of you as I write posts (seriously!) so the more feedback the better. XO Happy New Year!

  67. I love reading and viewing about your everyday life in a tropical location! Living in Ohio is a roller coaster of weather highs and lows (it’s 15 degrees right now!). So for me, it’s a way of escape to the beach when I need to relax and dream (would love to live part of the year by a beach when we are able to retire). Keep posting those great photos of your tropical life!
Your style of writing is always so entertaining too!

    1. Debbie –Thank you so much for this feedback. I’m thrilled to hear that you enjoy seeing bits of our Hawaiian life because I love to share those things…I never want it to come across in a way that makes anyone feel bad, but always hopes it adds a little sunshine to everyone’s days… So, yes– thank you! Much love to you and Happy new Year!! XO

  68. A, B, D, E.

How did you survive with multiple small children at once, with your sanity in tact (I have 7-year-old, 2-year-old, 7-month-old)? You seem to handle everything that comes your way with such grace!

Also, life on Hawaii vs. life on the mainland?

I love everything about your blog. I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again. You’re inspirational to me.

    1. Amanda–Thank you so much for the amazing encouragement. And please don’t let my life now give you the wrong message–I struggled SO much when my boys were all young. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. I often handled things poorly and I still have regrets. But I did keep pressing on, praying and reading/studying to improve. And things have just gotten so much easier. I’ll try to share on that topic in a post too! 🙂 Much love and again–I appreciate your feedback!! XO

  69. Hi Monica. I am looking forward to what you will blogging about this year! I have a teenager and a 7 yo any posts on these age groups would be appreciated. Also any recipes that are kid friendly, mainly lunch and dinner would bexpect helpful. TY!

    1. Awesome Liz!! Thank you for the feedback! XO Happy New Year!

    1. Debbie– Indeed, we are all in this together! Thank you for the feedback and I look forward to covering those topics! Bless you in the New Year!! XO

  75. Brigid van der Moezel says:

My main topics of interest are raising and homeschooling middle and high school boys. Mine are 10 and 12 at present (and almost 30, 28, 26, 24, and 21, but that’s another lifetime!).
Thanks for your work. I really enjoy it.

    1. Awesome Brigid! Thank you so much for taking the time to comment! Bless you. (and wow–you’ve done this parenting thing twice!? Amazing!)

  76. This will not make it easier, but all of it is great! I have homeschooled, have a teenager, a tween and a elementary age. I’m a mother who likes health and recipes. I’m about to hit 40 this summer. The reality of your life and your openness is what I live about your blog. So, even though I’m not limiting you to my personal preference, I will encourage you to continue on as long as the Lord gives you words to share. You are a blessing to many out there, so keep it going!

    1. Summer: Wow, what incredibly kind words…And yes, we sound a lot alike! 😉 Thank you for taking time to leave that comment and I promise to keep doing my best to share, encourage and be open about our life, good bad and in between. Bless you and thank you again. Aloha!

  79. Karene Krijt says:

Happy New Year Monica! Glad to hear the break was productive. To answer your question, all your posts are helpful and interesting, but if I had to choose, these would be the subjects I’d like:

    A. Posts about raising kids 12 to 18
    B. Posts about growing a healthy, happy family
    C. Teenager posts
    D. Marriage related posts.
    G. Coping with Menopause, what to expect, etc.

  80. Hi there,
Love your blog, teenager posts are great, I have a 14 year old son and a 12 year old girl.. Recipes are good too, parenting posts, marriage posts and health and fitness. Looking forward to your series about life in your mid forties.
Happy New Year to you and your family, 🙂

  81. Oh my goodness, give me ALL of them! Sorry, that wasn’t very helpful. 😉

  82. Donna Treverton says:

I especially enjoy posts on being a woman & a Christian.
What is he squeezing?? They look green!!?
It is ~0 degrees Fahrenheit this evening – very still outside – and cold.
Your pictures of beautiful beaches and warmth and sunshine really give me a lift!

    1. Thank you Donna! Awesome feedback. And yes, those are some kind of oranges that remain very green on the outside but bright orange and very sweet on the inside! Cool, right? And you probably know, but a snowy cold day sounds incredibly cozy to my family! Enjoy. XO

  83. Would love to hear more about Hawaii. All the pro’s and cons.

  84. Balancing life with homeschool… intimacy with husband and keeping it a priority esp with homeschooling… raising kids (especially the bickering between them!)… and I’d love to get great recipes! Thanks for your blog!

    1. Thank you Jane! Love that. Enjoy those boys! Appreciate the feedback!

  88. Oh sorry. Posted the same stuff twice. Thought first one didn’t work bc my internet bugged out. 😉

    1. No worries–It happens a lot, and it could be something on my blog-end too, sorry. 🙂 XOXO

  89. My oldest is a tween – heaven help me! Seems like an everyday struggle to love him well, while guiding his head-in-the-clouds/stretch-my-wings attitude in a godly way! I’d love some help!! I also LOVE your attitude, wisdom and perspective on body image. I am planning on re-reading your book, The Secret of Your Naturally Skinny Friends again and make new notes! This is most definitely my Achilles heel – my biggest struggle.

Thanks for being encouragement, light and love in cyber space when there seems to be so much negativity! love your blog! 💕

    1. Oh Jamie–That just was the sweetest. Thank you! I will definitely be working on tween-related posts…I’m sure you’re doing great! So happy if my book has helped a little and never give up the fight to overcome. Bless you and again, thank you. XO

  90. All of your posts are helpful and encouraging. My favorites are the parenting posts. It’s such an ongoing daily work and love to hear how others manage and thrive. Also would love posts on managing getting older (mid 40’s), hormonal changes, pre menopause, etc. my friends and I are talking about this weekly. It’s the new reality. Happy 2017, friend. Good luck on the book writing. I’m sure one day it will get the attention it deserves but until then enjoy the other stuff. 😀

    1. THANK YOU Heather! Great feedback. 🙂 The mid-forties posts should be a fun conversation–I will count on all of you to help me with them! Haha. Appreciate your encouragement! Aloha and happy 2017 to you, too!

  91. Letter A….not sure if you mean the kids age or the moms age…..but I’m a 39 year old mom with 2 teenagers and a baby due in April. I’m curious how different it’s gonna be now that I’m older.

    1. Thank you Karyl! I had my last son just before I turned 40 too! It’s awesome! Wish I had quickly had one more after that actually! Appreciate your feedback. Much Aloha and hope you are feeling great with the pregnancy! XO

I love all of your posts, Monica! I have three boys – 7, 4, and 1 — and we homeschool, too. I’d love to read about how to get from where we are to where you are now. (And I don’t mean Virginia to Hawaii, although that’s not a bad idea!) I really enjoy the “how we spend our days” posts, and my favorite, favorite post is The Little Thing in Your Head That Might Change Everything. That was so encouraging to me this past year. Your site is just my absolute favorite! I’ve been waiting to get your e-book, and I am planning to purchase it today! Thanks for all of your inspiration!

    1. Laura–What a sweet comment! Thank you so much, I am super encouraged by all of that. I will keep you in mind as I begin to work on new posts this year! 🙂 The fact that you are here is evidence to me that you are an intentional parent, and on the right track! Much aloha and please do keep in touch!

  100. EJ Winslow says:

I truly love all your posts. I am a mom of 3 boys (two teenagers and an 11yo) so I completely identify with these insights (and hilarity!). I am looking forward to the posts about life in the mid forties. It does certainly feel different than life in my 30’s but not the death sentence I anticipated it would be when I was young. In fact, my life is much richer now than it ever was in my 20’s/30’s.
Just keep writing that true stuff, its what we love about you.

    1. EJ…Such sweet words, thank you! yay for three boys! Awesome. I agree–I am so much happier and more balanced now than ever before, but the further I get into my 40’s the more I realize things are changing…haha. It should be a fun series! Thank you for taking time to comment and I hope you’ll keep in touch.

  101. I am an older mom, raising adopted grandsons 18 and 20. Your teen posts were always interesting to me…. and often helpful. Your posts on marriage have been helpful, as well. The boys became ours at 3 and 4… so you can imagine how that changed the dynamics of a marriage!
In general I enjoy all your posts.
    Happy 2017!!

    1. Wow Ann, I have a lot of respect for what you’ve done, and yes, I imagine it’s been a bit crazy. Bless you. Thanks for the feedback and I hope you’ll keep in touch! XO

  102. Berit Kawaguchi says:

A, C, & topic 2 caught my eye the most. I took the enneagram after you recommended it as did my son. Looking forward to application 😉. . Glad you had a lovely break. Love You!

  103. 1, 2, 3, and 4 are perfect! I’m in my 40s, married, raising a 13 year old daughter and 17 year old son. I really just enjoy reading your posts because they validate what I am doing, provide me with tips and are just fun.

    1. Oh that is so sweet Marilyn! I have a feeling you could offer us all a lot of wisdom as well! 🙂 Bless you and thank you for taking the time to comment! Aloha-

  106. All of the above 😊 That’s what I like so much about your blog (YOU, actually 😁) — that you share many aspects of your life with us, both the successes and failures. So encouraging! I look forward to all you’ll share in 2017. Thank you! ❤

    1. Jamie–that is the sweetest!! Thank you so much. 😉 (I like you too, I already know it.) Bless you in the new year and I do hope to bring you lots of encouragement this year! XO

  107. Sibling Rivalry! My oldest, a 12 year old boy and our youngest, a 6 year old boy, are relentlessly at each other’s throats. I. Can’t. Stand. It. Our 10 year old daughter, gets along wonderfully with her older brother and she’s patient enough to get along with her younger brother but thinks he’s a pain in the rear on most days…which he CAN be…longing for attention and inclusion of his older two siblings. sigh.

      1. Thank you! I read your post and its full of great ideas. The comments had even more good tips. Awesome!

        1. Thank you, and I agree– these comments have me so excited to get writing!! XO XO 🙂

    B
    D

  110. I am a grandmother of 9, raised blended families (6 kids….one with Type 1 Diabetes ) and worked as night nurse. I still learn from you……love all of the topics.
I personally wish I had focused more on gratitude, health/fitness accountability for all of us. 🍀💪

    1. Marilyn — Wow, look at you. Amazing life! I’m so honored the you would even learn from me…Thank you for taking the time to comment. Bless you in the new year and please keep in touch!! XO

  114. Jean Janner says:

TEENAGERS!!!!!! Parenting teenagers!!!!! Especially teenage BOYS! What the heck?! Help!!!!! I’m dying here! Overnight, it seems, my boy has ceased being a child and has hit the pre-man phase. And all the great stuff I learned in my MOPS group is now obsolete. Please help! Because you totally have it going on, boy-wise!

    1. Jean — I’m cracking up. Love your enthusiasm! (MOPS isn’t helping anymore? hahaha…) I’ll do my best to offer you support. but keep that humor because I’ll bet it keeps you all going!! Aloha and stay tuned…

Your writing and wisdom is such a blessing! Everything you write is helpful! What is most helpful to me currently is on family life in the current climate whether that is children, teenagers, marriage, mommy time, etc).

  116. C. I would LOVE to read blogs on teens from a Christian Mom in the middle of it! 😉

    1. You got it Dee!! thank you so much for taking the time to comment! Aloha-

  117. Teenagers, both how to parent them and how to have a healthy personal life while you have them 🙂 There seem to be lots of young moms blogging, doing life together, supporting one another, letting each other know they’re not alone, learning together and then its like their kids turn teenagers and then the blogs vanish lol.. And you feel all alone at a time when you need just as much support as when the kids were younger, albeit a different kind. Finding your blog was a breath of fresh air to me in figuring out how to train my son to be the man God has called him to be, it reminded me that I’m not alone in the journey and that mothers all over the world are going through some of the same things.

    1. Jenn…Wow, such an awesome comment, thank you so much. I am honored to stick around and walk with you through these years!! 🙂 Bless you and thank you for taking the time to comment and the very encouraging words…Stick around and keep int ouch, ok? 🙂 aloha-

Thanks for all your insight! Your post on positive parenting (speaking truth) changed my thinking toward parenting and made me realize that there is so much out there on the internet in terms of ideas and support. Your book was also very important for me to read during this season of my life. (working mom, 4.5 year old twin girls and an 18 month old boy – living in the Middle East). Thanks for all the insight and great way of writing!

    1. Lisa–Thank you thank you! great feedback. I really appreciate you taking the time to comment. I hope to offer you lots of support and encouragement in the New Year! XO

  119. I’m really interested in all but the teenager posts. We’re just not quite there yet😉 I really enjoy reading about homeschooling as well. We’re in the toddler years and weighing all our options. Love your posts! Thanks for sharing!

  120. I believe all of the content you mentioned is appreciated and helpful. I guess what I feel I need to read the most right now are
    A. Posts about raising kids–at any age (name the age if you want to!)
    B. Posts about growing a healthy, happy family (look for one on that topic coming soon actually.)
    C. Teenager posts!?
    D. Marriage related posts.

And I LOVE ALL of the series you mentioned are currently already in the planning phases.

Thanks for all you do and share. Parenting boys is NO JOKE! lol.
