Wrapping up summer in Hawaii with photos and a very special giveaway!
I hesitated to publish a blog post showing pretty pictures and a happy life today. In light of all of the devastation going on in Texas and Louisiana right now, it just didn’t seem right. I considered sharing a post with ways we might help, but I think there are plenty of those out there (Here’s just one of many.) Finally I decided that in the midst of such dark and heavy news, perhaps a little sunshine might actually be good for everyone. I hope so. If you happen to be reading this from anywhere near the storm, know that our hearts are with you. I am believing Isaiah 43:2 for you: “God will carry you through the storm.’
Now friends, I want to take a poll: Are you happy, or sad for this change of season? Obviously there are many factors to consider: Kids are back in school, which is __________ (fill in the blank, haha.) Summer is ending, which means the weather is ____________ (fill in.) Fall is ahead and that means __________ (what does it mean?) And then some of you who live on the bottom side of our globe are just ending winter (!!) and looking forward to summer ahead. Wow. Lots to think about. Anyways, you’ll have a chance to share your true feelings in comments below! (and don’t worry, I won’t tell the kids!)
If you’ve been around for long, you know that I love this time of year! I love the beginning of a new school year, a little more organized schedule, and of course anticipating the holidays ahead. Fall is my very favorite season. (even if I have to use my imagination and a bunch of scented candles to get some.)
We’ve been back at (home)school for a solid three weeks now, and it’s been a bit of a shock to our lazy summer systems, but ending our day like this is always helpful…
I’m enjoying the final weeks of peaceful, flat waters on our north shore. The boys have been commuting to the South shore many days a week to find surf-able waves. By October the waves will be back; which really kicks off the Oahu version of the fall/winter season. Not exactly crisp air and falling leaves, but it’s something.
And looking back– Our summer really was amazing. I felt like I spent an entire summer in California, but came home to many more great days. We’ve been blessed to spend a lot of time boating with Dr. Shormann and his family (he’s the man behind the DIVE math and science curriculum that we use and love!) There’s been a ton of fishing, diving, swimming with dolphins, and even wake-surfing behind his boat. It’s been incredible.
Dave had a bit of time off recently and the two of us got out a lot together. There is a short (but steep!) hike nearby that we love to do. It brings you up to old army bunkers and the view of our north shore is incredible.
South Shore afternoons have been good for all. Levi has become a surfing fool. Thankful to the big brothers for all of their help when Dave is working. And I just wonder how many pictures like this will fit on my iphone? Cuz every night I’m sure is better than the last one!
Now before we can call it a summer, we have one last SUMMER OF FAVORITES giveaway to share!
