Hey Friends. I’m just coming down from my summer camp high after four nights at Turtle Bay Resort for the Gerry Lopez Surf/SUP/Yoga retreat. I have so much to share from that week, but until I can put the words together, I thought I would open up a topic that I have been meaning to get to for a while. It’s a little buzzword that I get a lot of questions about from readers.
How do I balance it all? Homeschooling, family, fitness, marriage, “me time,” and yes…blogging and social media.
This may be the universal question, especially for moms in this busy season of life. And I think it’s legit. A balanced life is an honorable pursuit. Who wouldn’t want one?
Because when we think of balance, we think of order. Harmony. And (dare I say – ) a peaceful existence.
Oh how I wish there were a simple answer. I would love to give you my five-step approach to finding perfect balance, and then suggest that you try it too.
Except I don’t have it. In fact, I tend to agree with Jen Hatmaker’s assessment of this thing of balance in her book, For the Love:
Balance. It’s like a unicorn; we’ve heard about it, everyone talks about it and makes airbrushed T-shirts celebrating it, it seems super rad, but we haven’t actually seen one. I’m beginning to think it isn’t a thing.
Well said, Jen.
So no, I won’t be pretending to be an expert at balance, anymore than I’ll claim to have a pet unicorn. I struggle like everyone else, and there are days where I think I’ve failed miserably in my attempt to juggle all of the people, responsibilities, and passions in my life.
However, after many years of working at this, I have figured a few things out. Or maybe more like reconciled myself to a few things. I have found some perspective and I have learned to prioritize the things that clamor for my attention. And I’m proud to say: I haven’t lost all of my marbles yet.
So I thought this would be a worthwhile conversation. I’ll share what I’ve learned, and you share, too.
I’ve decided this is just too much for one post, so we’ll cover it in a few:
A mini-series, if you will.
^pin or share that so your friends can join the conversation over here!
Over the next few weeks I’ll share a few posts on topics like: managing our priorities, taking care of our families and ourselves, working from home, and a bit about my blogging/online life balance. There are some areas I could really use some help in (and I’ll ask for your suggestions on those!) I’m banking on some healthy discussion as we go!
I would love to tailor this mini-series to touch on the things that affect you guys the most, so I hope you’ll comment below: What are your biggest challenges with finding balance in life? Is there an area you feel stuck in? What makes you feel overwhelmed? If you have specific questions about my blogging life or social media related stuff, let me know here! Other work-from-home questions? Let me know!
I’ll be back soon!
With much aloha,
