Mele Kalikimaka!! Merry Christmas…AND Happy New Year!
^^The family Christmas card photo. 😉
The year has flown by and it’s hard to believe we’re already smack in the middle of the holidays. The holidays!! Not sure how we got here so quick, but here we are. I hope you’re soaking in some sweet celebrations, family fun, and even a bit of REST…Remember rest? Yeah, that.
My goal this year was to finish all of my shopping by the week before Christmas so I could just hang out and enjoy the whole week. I pretty much accomplished that goal (a first…and yes a true Christmas miracle!) so I’m just soaking in the week to bake, visit, do the 750 piece puzzle I
stupidly zealously brought home (it’s the kind with the charming Christmas village scene, how could I not?) watch allofthechristmasmovies, and enjoy my boys and whatever comes up! Dave works every day through til the New Year (it’s ok, we’ve done this a few times before) so the boys and I will keep busy and thank-you-God my folks are in town to make it feel more like a holiday! (bless them.) And yes, Dave will be home each evening so it’s not all that bad. (lots of prayers going out for those missing someone special during the holidays…I mean that.)
All of that to say that I’m feeling pretty good about an intentional, restful holiday. 🙂
And for the first time ever, I’m also going to take a little extra time away from blogging through the rest of the holidays….which is kind of a big deal for me. I haven’t taken more than a few days off this blog ever — in six years of blogging! (crazy, right?) So a few weeks off seems not only appropriate, but probably quite healthy!
You will still find me on social media, but even there I will only be on when it flows with life. (Maybe you can add me to favorites or whatever you can do to make sure you see my Facebook and Instagram posts.)
Now I leave you with some recent photos from our holiday season here in Hawaii, and then a few special links/announcements that could potentially keep you busy for a while.
Home…Sunsets, wetsuits, (the Triple Crown of Surfing always on TV) and a big Norfolk Pine Tree. (I’m pretty sure our house was built for Christmas.)
Below–My parents little beach condo…I caught this photo in a very typical moment with two kids playing a game outside, dinner about to go on the table (lamb chops, thank you Mom!), and two more boys just walking back from a surf…Let’s just freeze life right about…now.
Fun winter news: Luke had a feature article in the December issue of Free Surf Magazine. Click on link to read the online version. 🙂
AND just today…Surfline.com did a really cool article about Aaron Gold — our friend and Guiness Book World Record holder for biggest wave ever surfed! The article features some super cool photos of him with Luke and a few of Luke’s best buddies. Check it out here.
A quick gush of love to YOU before I sign off…
Please know: Of all of the gifts in my life right now I genuinely consider this blog community to be one of the greatest. You guys have been amazingly supportive, super fun, and so so kind. You add more joy to my life than you could know. When I get back here in the New Year, I hope to talk about some of the things I look forward to in 2017. (and I can’t wait to hear what you’re looking forward to as well!) I have a few exciting things to launch early in the New Year, and a few God-sized dreams to share. In other words — six years later, I feel like I’m only just getting started! I can’t wait to share the journey with you!
Now for some fun links…
I hope you’ll visit, share and Pin these to share with your friends!?

PODCAST FANS!? Would you believe?…I was interviewed on a podcast called “The Perfect Wife”! (don’t get too excited– I’m not it.) Jessie (from styleandpepper.com and the popular podcast “Marriage is funny.” ) put together a fun series of interviews on a podcast she called “The Perfect Wife.” Look for her interview with ME in episode 6, and then Jessie’s short-and-sweet recap of our chat in episode 6.5 You’ll hear us cover a lot of ground–how Dave and I met, struggles we had early in our marriage, what we argue about now, lessons I’ve learned in our 20 years (what!?) of marriage….and how I describe “Great love.” Oh, and then Dave pops in at the end with a little message that just makes me cry. (you gotta listen to the end for that! :))
Finally— Some of you know that my 17-year old, Josiah, has his own website where he shares photos and writing (and some really cool doodles and other silly surprises ;)). Well, he has an announcement up there that sometime over the holidays he plans to release the first six chapters of a “Novelette” (fancy word for a short story…I think) that he has been working on, literally, for years! That’s big news! And it’s a very special story. Hop over to this page to read about the story, and subscribe there too so you don’t miss the big announcement when it comes! **If you have teens or tweens in the house–I think they’ll especially love this mystery/adventure story.
Gotta go now–my puzzle and Hallmark movie can’t wait forever…
Leave a comment? Share a bit form your holidays?
Much aloha and Merry Christmas!
