I haven’t done many family or surf updates lately, so I hope you will put up with a little shameless loving on my birthday boy son.
Luke turned 12 last weekend.
I thought that his birthday might be a fun time to share some recent surf photos and a couple short videos.
Especially since I can’t seem to remember to take photos of things like: Birthdays. Or normal life.
Also, I figure it’s safer to just talk about surfing than to dive in to my feelings about Luke. Because one thing could easily lead to another and pretty soon you might find me blabbering about how much I love him…how he’s growing up way too fast…what a proud mom I am…what an incredible person he is (seriously, I wish you could all meet him because I really think you’d like him) and how I much I admire, respect, appreciate and generally adore him…and well, I wouldn’t want to put you through all that, would I?
So we’ll just stick with surf for now, ok?
Here we go—fun, happy, (unemotional) photos…
See more photos and keep up with Luke’s awesome sponsors at his website: lukesurfs.com
(which I should mention, is run by his brother Josiah, who also has his own website complete with photos, essays, and a recent short story your kids will love! :))
Turn up your volume for these! 🙂
Since we’re talking surfing, I also have to mention…
Today! Wednesday, February 10th…The QUIKSILVER EDDIE AIKAU INVITATIONAL event is happening! This contest is held at Waimea Bay and it only happens when the waves at are BIG (like 30-40 feet!) and perfect for the event. (It’s been over six years since the last one!)
They announced it would be happening this Monday and people have been literally flying in, driving up, camping out, walking, biking, hitch-hiking, skate-boarding and skipping work and school to get to see the Eddie unfold. We were out of town for the last one, so this will be our first “Eddie experience.” Wish us luck! :0
UPDATE AS OF the morning of 2/10….The Eddie is NOT a GO! The swell did not come in as anticipated and they cancelled the contest. There is the chance that they will run it later or tomorrow, but for now everyone is on hold…(As the Eddie saying goes, “The Bay determines the Day.”) So interesting! 🙂
Aloha for now, and thank you for indulging me with a little Lukey love…
See you back here soon!
